Lyrics I Love

I sometimes wonder what it says about me that the song lyrics I am most drawn to are usually about insanity, barely holding it together, the passage of time, and/or aging.

Here are a few samples of my favorite lyrics…  Please feel free to analyze me…  I need all the help I can get.

Life’s like an hourglass
Glued to the table

The less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine

I’m not sick
But I’m not well

From the opium of custom
To the ledges of extremes
Don’t believe it til you’ve held it
Life is seldom what it seems

The tick-tock of the clock is painful
All sane and logical
I want to tear it off the wall

And you run and you run
to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way
But you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

What day is it?
And in what month?

This clock never seemed so alive

I’m not crazy

I’m just a little unwell

So If you’re walking
Down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don’t just pass them by and stare
As if you didn’t care
Say “hello in there”

“Hello”

So I’ll bide my time
Like there’s any other way
It moves too slow
It moves too fast
It’s gone and passed

It stopped entirely today

Check my vital signs

To know I’m still alive

This thing beneath my ribs

will beat me to the ground

All that I feel

Is the realness I’m faking
